Two main catastrophic events occurred in these past two months:

In August, Typhoon Morakot wrought catastrophic damage in Taiwan, causing 461 people dead and 192 others missing. This extreme weather triggered enormous mudslides and severe flooding throughout southern Taiwan. One mudslide buried the entire town of Xiaolin, killing an estimated 500 people in the village alone. Nearly 2,000 homes were destroyed in the country and 136,000 more were reported to have sustained damage. The storm also caused severe flooding in the northern Philippines that killed 26 people.

Another disaster was the powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake that hit Inodnesia West Java on last Thursday, killed over 60 people, injured 400 others and destroyed 87,000 homes. A group of 30 volunteers comprising Malaysian medical students from several universities have been deployed to Indonesia to provide assistance to victims.

My modest observation (maybe a wrong one) is that Malaysia sent assist team to Indonesia but not to Taiwan and Philippines. This has triggered some thoughts. Is it because Indonesia is nearer to Malaysia than Taiwan and Philippines? Whenever disasters occurred in non-Muslim countries only several local newspapers will raise fund to help the victims. Erm.... I don’t mean to be offensive. Let us donate some money and pray for the victims of these events and lastly, be grateful of what we have today.
